Through Design.Build.Act, launched in 2023, Protection Approaches has supported 30 community-based organisations who work with marginalised communities to design, develop, and deliver programmes that address the root causes of identity-based violence, strengthen prevention, and improve victim support and response.
The programme supports organisations to develop initiatives grounded in lived experience, while strengthening their ability to engage with and influence the systems that shape people’s experiences of safety, inclusion, and justice.
To date, Design.Build.Act has provided over £150,000 in funding, alongside structured training, peer learning, and tailored one-to-one support delivered by the Protection Approaches team over an approximately 12-month period including:
Project Design Lab: a facilitated workshop supporting organisations to focus on community needs, identify the root causes of identity-based violence, and develop a clear, achievable roadmap for a new or strengthened programme.
Training Modules: tailored training sessions covering areas such as understanding discrimination and identity-based violence, improving prevention and victim support, and engaging with systems, policy, and local decision-makers.
One-to-One Support: flexible, ongoing support from the Protection Approaches team, helping organisations embed learning, navigate partnerships, and adapt delivery as their work develops.
Peer Support Network: peer learning sessions providing space to share progress, challenges, and learning, and to build relationships across civil society.
