Preventing identity-based violence requires more than responding to harm after it occurs. It means protecting people at risk while building the trust, relationships and resilience that make societies stronger and safer. We work across communities, institutions and systems to understand and reduce the factors that drive division, strengthen the conditions that bring people together, and improve protection when risks emerge. By supporting community leadership, strengthening institutional policy and practice, and generating evidence about what works, we help build societies in which people are safer, more connected and better able to thrive.
Protection Approaches works across these pillars simultaneously and with deliberate intersection. Our model combines community partnership, research and analysis, policy influence, and strategic convening to ensure that insights from lived experience inform policy and that policy change translates into practical improvements for communities. Our work is intentionally flexible so that we can respond to emerging risks, sudden shocks, and opportunities for change.
